Jess J. Ramirez

Author & Community Activist

On a hot summer day in Ciudad Juarez, where I was born, little drops of water kept me from dying. It was these gotitas benditas (blessed drops) of water sent by God that gave me a purpose in life.

From high school, to serving in the Army and going to Vietnam, I've dedicated my life to community activism to bring dignity and respect to nuestra gente.

In 1992, I was elected to the Port of Hueneme Commission and continued working to provide opportunities for working-class families. Along the way, I graduated college at UC San Diego, became a member of the ILWU Dock Workers Union.

On a personal note, I'm the proud father of four college educated daughters from UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Chicago, and Harvard.

My story will soon be told as a bilingual children's book, "Little Drops of Water." Sign up below for more information.
